Hi, I just wondered if it is safe to go on HRT if you are taking PPI’s abd have a family history of osophegas cancer/Barrett’s. I was diagnosed with possible Barrett’s two years ago and a hiatus hernia which is why I am on the medication but recently felt that I could do with some hormone replacement treatment.

As far as I know, HRT is perfectly safe with PPIs. It may even be beneficial but do discuss with pharmacist if concerned.
Oestrogen has some sort of protective effect which is why, of the 40% who say they never felt heartburn prior to Barrett's diagnosis, the majority are women. (This makes sense as acid reflux is common during pregnancy.)
Also, the suggestion that PPIs contribute to osteoporosis by reducing calcium intake, has recently been debunked with the observation that the majority of the osteoporosis claims are from women after the menopause.
