Chris ,an informative response to the poster - I would appreciate your thoughts on an A +E consultant ( not a GI expert ) altering my Esomeprazole 40mg 2xd to Omeprazole 40mg 2xd when I attended hospital with chest discomfort.
I have been referred for an endoscope and my GP has taken the hospital line that my PPI should change. Is the Omeprazole at that dosage equivalent to Esomeprazole or is it a higher dose as Down with Acid indicates Astra Zeneca claim the 40mg Esomeprazole is effective to 20mg Omeprazole . I'm confused ! And is it possible the change was made on cost rather than clinical grounds ? |

NHS advice is cheapest drug that works. Omeprazole 40mg is as effective as esomeprazole 40mg. It should work just as well and save NHS money.
