Barrett's Wessex (BW) now manages the on-line forum and a slowly growing number of support groups for those with acid reflux problems, particularly Barrett's Oesophagus, with an aim to reduce incidences of oesophageal cancer.

As groups become established, BW offers a dedicated website where their details may be found.
Barrett's Essex ( is one such group.
Where we are hopeful a new group will be established soon, a temporary site may be set up in anticipation. (eg. Barrett's West and Barrett's Kent which we hope to establish in the next few months.) If and when the groups become established, easier URLs will be applied (eg and
Within the Wessex region, new groups ("hubs") are part of Barrett's Wessex and have a microsite within the main BW site (eg. and
Other hubs we are presently attempting to establish have pages already on the BW site (eg Dorchester, Salisbury, Reading) and will get an easier URL (eg ...) once those hubs are established.

Groups managed by or affiliated to BW have sites with a similar template, utilising the red and yellow colours and linking to this online forum (which can also provide a common meeting place where groups can share ideas).

If you would like a support group in your area, BW are happy to help. BW can set up a temporary site using a similar template to those linked to above and advertise those links on this forum. If / when the group becomes established, suitable easier URLs will be applied to them. BW can also provide printed material specific to your group.

Anyone can run a support group. You don't have to have any great knowledge or expertise. Support groups usually find suitable meeting places where their local members may meet to chat and exchange ideas, information leaflets may be available and, on request, we may be able to furnish a visitor able to answer some questions. Other questions may be posted on this forum or forwarded to Barrett's Wessex who usually manage to get an expert answer fairly quickly.

Read this page on BW site for more information if you wish to consider getting a group started in your area.
